Five Easy Gobi Dishes to Prepare at Home

When you find yourself having bought a cabbage and not having any clue how to go about it in the kitchen, what do you normally cook? I think we all have been there before. We go out to buy veggies thinking we’ll cook something healthy, and a couple of days later we find ourselves struggling to think of anything but sabzi again. The good thing about gobi is that you can use it in several different ways without needing a long list of ingredients.

If you don’t have enough potatoes, peas, flour, or spices, then a kirana store near me will help to smooth out your cooking a bit. Rather than waiting for the ingredients that are required, you could order them right from home. With this problem out of the way, let us move on to five easy recipes.

1. Aloo Gobi

This is the natural starting point. Cabbage and potatoes must be cut into fine pieces and then spiced up using cumin seeds, turmeric, coriander powder, chilli powder, and salt. This process must be done on a low flame because the potatoes have to be cooked and not mashed in the process. Some chopped coriander sprinkled over makes an excellent garnish.

2. Gobi Matar

An interesting combination to try out is that of cabbage and peas. In the first step, cumin seeds are to be fried with onions, ginger, and green chillies in a little amount of oil. This process continues until the vegetables become soft. Later, cabbage and other ingredients are added. Let the vegetables cook covered until ready. Add water if required. Garnish with lemon juice and coriander leaves.

3. Gobi Paratha

Sauté the cabbage to soften it. After that, add coriander, green chillies, ajwain seeds, red chilli powder, and salt to it. If the filling is not cohesive, just some mashed potato will work well. Place your filling on the dough and cover its sides. Brush the tawa with some oil or ghee prior to frying the paratha. You can have your paratha with yoghurt and pickles.

4. Gobi Pulao

If you have cooked rice already, you can make this very fast. Heat up oil in a frying pan, and then put in cumin seeds, bay leaves, and a cinnamon stick. After getting a strong fragrance, continue by putting in the onion and peas. Gradually add the cabbage, stir fry until all ingredients take on a slight brown colour. Add the rice, some salt, and a little garam masala, mixing them all up. Raita on the side is all you really need.

5. Crispy Cabbage Bites

When the desire for snacking strikes you, just take gram flour and add to it cumin and coriander seeds in powdered form along with a little chilli powder and some salt. Then add chopped chilli to the mix and slowly pour in water to make a thick paste, roll the dough into balls, and fry them; serve with green chutney or ketchup on the side. They’re a great addition to your tea break, and easy to make.

Make Shopping Easier

A glance in the kitchen before you start will save you from finding yourself in the middle of cooking when you suddenly discover that you have no coriander left. If you’re looking for a kirana store near me, you can order missing ingredients from home. Instamart is another option for grocery delivery, subject to product availability.

Cook It Your Way

These recipes are starting points, not strict instructions. Put more chillies if you love them, leave out those ingredients which you dislike and use any other vegetables when you have them. That is how most people cook on a daily basis. And while planning your next meal, don’t forget that gobi is much more than roti’s side dish.
