Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, situated near Connaught Place (CP) is a Sikh house of worship devoted to Guru Har Krishan- the eighth Sikh Guru. It was originally built in 1664 by a Rajput ruler as his bungalow but later dedicated to Guru Har Krishan. History of Bangla Sahib Gurudwara
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib was originally built as a bungalow by a Hindu Rajput Ruler, Raja Jai Singh, in the seventeenth century. It was then referred to as Jaisinghpura Palace, located in the historic area of Jaisingh Pura, which was torn down to create the Connaught Place shopping district.
In 1664, Guru Har Krishan stayed at Raja Jai Singh’s Banglow (pronounced “Bangla” in Hindi and Punjabi), hence the gurudwara was named Bangla Sahib to memorialize his stay. Now gurudwara and its Sarovar is a place of great reverence for Sikhs. On the birth anniversary of Guru Har Krishan, a special congregation is held in this holy site every year.
